Many of the visual tools needed to fly the Shuttle are located on the front control panels. The commander and pilot each have the same set of controls in front of them, so either can fly the Shuttle if necessary. Three computer screens provide visuals of the engines as well as the inside and outside of the Shuttle. There are also indicator lights and gauges for the <a href="text">main engines (SSME)</a> and the <a href="text">hydraulic pressure systems</a>. The <a href="Glossary">abort</a> light and controls are there to use if anything goes wrong during lift-off. The <a href="text">Attitude Direction Indicator (ADI)</a> lets the crew know what the ShuttleÕs vertical and horizontal positions are while in orbit. The controls for the Orbital Maneuvering System (OMS) are set into this panel, as are the controls for the OrbiterÕs landing gear.
